Candle Care Tips
Caring for your candles properly ensures a longer burn time, better fragrance distribution, and a safer experience. On this page, you'll find expert tips from Amora to help you make the most out of your custom and seasonal candles.
Trim the Wick
One of the most important steps in candle care is trimming the wick. Before each burn, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. This helps to prevent soot buildup, ensures a cleaner burn, and extends the life of your candle. Long or uneven wicks can cause flickering and higher flames, which are not only inefficient but also unsafe. At Amora, we recommend using a wick trimmer to achieve the best results. Regularly trimming the wick also helps in maintaining an even melt pool, which is crucial for maximizing the fragrance throw.
Allow Full Melt Pool
For the first burn, it’s essential to allow the candle to burn long enough to create a full melt pool. A full melt pool is when the entire surface of the candle becomes liquid before extinguishing the flame. This can take between 2 to 4 hours depending on the size of the candle. Allowing a full melt pool prevents 'tunneling,' which occurs when a candle burns down the middle, leaving a ring of unused wax around the edges. Consistent full melt pools ensure an even burn throughout the candle’s life, making it last longer and smell better.
Burn Safety
Safety is paramount when burning candles. Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable objects. Never leave a burning candle unattended and keep it out of reach of children and pets. To avoid overheating, do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Extinguish the candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Using a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame is recommended as it helps to avoid hot wax splatters and minimizes smoke. At Amora, we prioritize your safety, and adhering to these guidelines will help ensure a safe and enjoyable candle experience.
